Gaming counters, were coin like objects produced for use as betting chips & scoring when playing cards or other similar games. These pieces were very common throughout the 18th and 19th centuries and were produced in vast quantities in a multitude of varieties. They are surprisingly cheap to purchase, which is surprising when you consider their age, although as mentioned previously, there is a sizeable supply!! They are generally made of brass and can be found with a wide array of legends, portraits, dates and sizes. Some of the more common varieties are:
